SeaMobile Announces Enhanced Tool for Customers to Maximize Bandwidth Allocations
MTN Satellite Services Product Provides Industry Leading Measurement Analysis Capabilities
Miramar, FL (March 17, 2009) -- SeaMobile Enterprises, the dominant global service provider of at-sea communications, connectivity and content services, announced today a major system upgrade of its highly regarded customer web portal to provide customers with stunning granularity and flexibility for measuring and monitoring VSAT bandwidth utilization.
The enhanced web portal is offered through the company’s MTN Satellite Services suite of products. It provides detailed bandwidth utilization graphs and reports that can be broken down by protocol, type of service such as Internet, corporate data, VoIP, or cellular, by individual IP address or by application. This degree of specificity and granularity will allow SeaMobile customers in remote locations at sea or on land to better understand their bandwidth usage.
“This is a first for the market and a major step forward for SeaMobile and our customers, said Kevin McCarthy, Senior Vice President, Network Engineering. “We understand that VSAT bandwidth is a valuable and limited resource, which must be carefully managed and optimized. During the past decade, we have strived to empower our customers with comprehensive monitoring tools that provide increasingly more visibility into the performance and utilization of their VSAT service. With this latest addition, customers will now be able to monitor bandwidth utilization with an unprecedented level of granularity and flexibility. In addition to helping them identify usage patterns and potential abuse, it will also allow them to make informed decisions regarding strategic bandwidth allocation and upgrades.”
The new system seamlessly integrates with MTN’s iDirect infrastructure and the company’s unique implementation of Riverbed compression and optimization technology. Historical data will be stored for up to three years, with 5 minute resolution available on all data. The system was custom developed for MTN by Parallel, a United Kingdom company specializing in developing network management systems for satellite networks under its flagship product suite called SatManage.
“The MTN web portal is a sophisticated and innovative use of some of SatManage’s most advanced capabilities,” said Guy Adams, Chief Technology Officer at Parallel. “I think it’s unquestionably a major advancement in monitoring and analyzing network use and bandwidth for remote networks throughout the world.”
The service will become available to SeaMobile/MTN VSAT customers starting in April of this year.
